New creative workshop for mothers (babies/children welcome!)

Calling all mums who can get to Brickworks Community Centre, N4 4BY!

Would you like to help me with a creative project and let me help you to start your own?

As part of the Mothers Who Make initiative, I have some Arts Council funding to make a Mother Record Book*. And I want to invite you to make yours – recording your experience of motherhood in the way that feels right. Working out what you want to record and how you want to do it will be part of the process.

*What is a Mother Record Book? Well, I just made it up. There are Baby Record Books which people use to document the memories and milestones of their children. But what about our experiences of motherhood? When I ask older women what they remember of this intense, challenging, transformative time, they often say it’s very little. I’m not surprised. When would you get the time to record anything? But I’d like to leave a trace of this time that is transforming me and slipping by so quickly –memories overwritten every day by the new people me and my babies are becoming, at this strange breakneck/tortoise-dawdle speed. And I’d love you to join me. There will be exercises to generate material for your books, and/or time to work on them independently. And also, no doubt, a lot of talking, listening and attending to children (feel free to come with or without!)
